They had the loveliest pansies and violets at Molbak's this fall. One led to another until I came home with a whole flat of them in a glorious variety of colors and sizes. Sadly, this was the only picture I painted before the cold, fall rains took their toll.

I recently acquired an instructional video by the amazing painter, Kathy Anderson. A more enthusiastic painter simply doesn't exist. Her still life set up was very intriguing and she explained her process in detail. I have almost always used cut flowers for my still lifes. Kathy used whole plants - lots of them. So here is my attempt at using whole plants and one cut flower. I must add, Kathy is a huge fan of pansies!

Still working with ideas I've learned from Lisa Gloria. It never ceases to amaze me how difficult it is to do a good painting of pansies. They look so darn simple!

I found this adorable glass sugar bowl in a local thrift store the other day.  With such ornate handles it seemed one pansy instead of a bunch set it off best.

You know it's just occurred to me that I've gotten a lot of mileage

out of those little purple and orange pansies. They are a

great little accent.

 

 

I am celebrating six months of daily paintings today! It's hard

to believe I've been doing this for six months already. It's also

a little hard to believe I've got another six months to go. :)

 

 

As part of my celebration I've put together this collage of

The tulips are from my lovely neighbor Melissa. Thank you Melissa!

Somewhere she got the idea I like to paint tulips. The pansies are

from a flower box on my deck. Needing flowers for still lifes has

given me a very dangerous excuse to buy plants. I'm having a

hard time figuring out where to put them all.
