Day 274 U-Pick Sunflower

U-Pick Sunflower
Oil on Gessobord
6 x 6

Note to self, visit sunflowers at u-pick farm before school starts
not after. Only a few great sunflowers were left by the time I got
there. This was one of them.

Day 273 Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park
Oil on Gessobord
5 x 7

If you ever want to see jaw dropping, amazing mountains from the
comfort of your own car, you have to take a trip to Glacier National Park
in Montana. A dream of mine is to be an artist in residence there someday.
This is based on a trip we took there a few years ago.

Day 272 Another Mini

Mini Zinnia
3 x 3
Oil on Canvas Board

Zinnias are terrific flowers. They come in the most wonderful,
intense colors and have extremely interesting centers.

Day 271 Plein Air at the Antique Rose Farm

Antique Rose, Plein Air
Oil on Canvas Board
6 x 6

I returned to the Antique Rose Farm in Snohomish the other day to collect more
photo reference and paint in plein air. Roses are much tougher to paint in
person, I'm here to tell you. But you couldn't ask for a more pleasant environment to paint in,
surrounded by flowers and classical music. I'll be back!

Day 270 Geraniums in the Afternoon

Geraniums in the Afternoon
Oil on Gessobord
5 x 7

For several weeks I admired how the afternoon sun lit up
these geraniums on my deck. I couldn't decide whether they would
make a good painting or not. Then one day, I decided "what the heck"
and gave it a whirl.

Day to Celebrate!

Heirloom Silver
16 x 24?
Watercolor on Watercolor Paper

I worked long and hard on this painting hoping to enter
it in a show and receive an award. Getting an award for a
painting can be a tricky thing. It's based mostly on the quality of the
work but also partly on what catches the judges eye. This one finally
caught a judges eye. I won second place for Heirloom Silver in the
Arts of the Terrace, a local show. Whoopee!

Day 269 But wait there's more!

Another English Rose
5 x 7
Oil on Canvas

What can I say, there is something about all those overlapping petals
that really turns me on. :)

Day 268 Sailboat on the Sound

Sailboat on the the Sound
Oil on Gessbord

I spotted this cool sailboat while taking a ferry ride to Port Townsend.

Day 267 Ft. Worden Lighthouse

Summer Evening at Ft. Worden
Oil on Gessobord
6 x 6

A really great lighthouse in a really great park. Ft Worden is located right
next to Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula. I would highly recommend a visit
if you have never been there.

Day 266 The Kingfisher

The Kingfisher
Oil on Gessobord
6 x 6

I'm always so excited when I get to see one of these birds, especially
as they dive in the water after their prey. I spotted this one at
Rosario Beach in Deception Pass State Park. My camera came with a humungous
telephoto lens that has been very helpful for bird photography.

Day 265 Another Wyoming Mini

After the Rain
Oil on Canvas Board
4 x 4

Here is one last Wyoming mini to share, at least for the moment.
Typically when we visit Wyoming it is hot, REALLY hot. We
were shocked to discover Seattle like weather on our last trip there.
I'm sure it didn't last though...

Day 263 Mini Moo

Mini Moo
Oil on Canvas Board
4 x 4

A silly, little painting of a silly, not-so-little cow hanging out in the sagebrush. One of
many cows we came across on our way out to the family ranch in Wyoming.

Day 264 Thunderheads over Wyoming

Thunderheads over Wyoming
Oil on Canvas Board
4 x 4

Here is another Wyoming mini painting. In the wide open
spaces of Wyoming, clouds become the star of the show, especially
thunderheads. We had a terrific thunderstorm here yesterday, not
nearly as common an occurrence as it is in Wyoming which, when
we were there, seemed to be a daily happening.

Day 262 Lilacs in the Morning

Lilacs in the Morning
Oil on Gessobord
6 x 6

Another image from the spring plein air trip. These were
growing in front of an old abandoned house. The house was
in sad shape but the lilac bush was gorgeous.

Day 261 Florida Wetlands at Sunset

Florida Wetlands at Sunset
5 x 5 x 1.5
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

The photo source for this painting goes back a few years. We were in
Florida to see one of the last shuttle launches. What a powerful experience
that was in more ways than one, the sight of the shuttle lifting off, the roar
of the engines, and the sound waves vibrating through one's body. Amazing!

Day 260 Mt. Hood - What a beauty!

Mt. Hood 2
Oil on Gessobord
5 x 7

This was painted from a photo I took last spring on a plein air
painting trip to the Columbia River Gorge. This was the view
from the street outside of our hotel. Amazing, right?

Day 259 Rose Trio

Rose Trio
Oil on Gessobord
6 x 6

My little photo safari to the Anitque Rose Farm in Snohomish last fall
was very productive. Here is yet another painting based on one of those photos.
I plan to return to the farm tomorrow and replenish my photo stock as well as
hopefully paint plein air.

Day 258 The English Red Gate

The English Red Gate
Oil on Gessobord
5 x 7

Last year I was fortunate enough to see my sister get married in England. One day, as we were walking around her neighborhood, I spotted this great red gate. I tried to sneak a photo but was caught red handed by the owner. My sister had to hastily explain I was just visiting and was charmed by his gate. Phew!

Day 257 Everett Dahlia Show

Prize Winner
6 x 6
Oil on Gessobord

I attended the annual dahlia show in Everett a couple of weeks ago hoping to see some spectacular flowers. I wasn't disappointed. This particular one has to be my favorite.
