No. 630 Raspberry Sherbert

Raspberry Sherbert
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

This is a flower from my very own rose bush purchased at the Antique Rose Farm last year. I'm in love. These flowers are simply gorgeous and I'm so very happy I brought them home. I gave up on roses years ago but with the assistance of the very helpful people from the Antique Rose Farm I was finally successful growing my own. I still can't believe it!

No. 488 Back Lit Rose Day 6

Back Lit Rose
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

The way the sun lit up this rose next to my deck was striking. It seemed to glow from within. So of course, I had to try and paint it. I wasn't successful in capturing all that I wanted but hopefully there is still a sense of that wonderful light here.

No. 476 Another try...

Lisa Gloria Styled Rose 2
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

Still working with the things I learned in Lisa Gloria's workshop. This is another rose from the Antique Rose Farm.

Just about ready for the next art festival. My daughter Anika and I will be putting our shingle out at the Fresh Paint Festival on the waterfront in downtown Everett. This is a terrific little art festival where the artists will be out demonstrating their craft. I currently have plans to paint a still life of pears. Everyone loves pears, right?

If you would like more info on this festival click here. My recommendation is to come a few minutes before it opens. There should still be plenty of parking right next to the festival. After perusing the booths and admiring the sailboats have lunch at one of several great restaurants right there. Sunday there will also be a farmers market at one end of the festival. So much to do! :)

No. 473 A Yellow Rose Lisa Gloria Style

Yellow Rose - Lisa Gloria Style
Oil on Linen Panel
5" x 7"

Putting the ideas to work that I learned in Lisa Gloria's online workshop.

Frantically packing for the Coupeville Arts Festival this weekend. I applied all the way back in February, was notified I was on the wait list in May and then a week and a half ago was told I was in! Thankfully, I was mostly ready since I will be in another art festival next weekend. I've sold some of my daily paintings at farmer's markets before but this is my first art festival, so I'm pretty nervous. Cross fingers for me that all the work and expense will be worth it!

No. 452 the Antique Rose Farm

Antique Rose Farm #1
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

I decided the other day that I wanted to improve my ability to paint roses. To do that meant focusing on just roses for awhile. What a great excuse to buy roses! But when I looked at the roses in the store they just seemed to have no character. Where to find roses to make you swoon? The Antique Rose Farm of course! My timing was perfect. The roses were their peak.

Petals Tipped in Purple
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

$38 + $6 domestic shipping

Painting this rose was a surprisingly tricky thing. I think possibly because I had the time to study it and the more you study the more you see....

No. 391 Antique Rose Refurbished

Antique Rose Refurbished
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

This is a rose I painted last summer but was never happy enough with to post. Now that I don't have to come up with a new painting everyday I can go back and fix the flops. That will keep me busy for awhile. :)

Day 256 Another Antique Rose

Antique Rose 3
Oil on Gessobord
6 x 6

They keep on coming. This one reminds me of something you'd find on a birthday cake.
Daily painting has been a surprising comfort these days. I suspect the routine of it and the focus needed to complete a painting is what makes it a nice respite. Getting the paintings photographed for blogging is a different story. So my blogging might be intermittent for a bit, just to let you know...

Day 252 Snohomish Antique Rose 2

Snohomish Antique Rose 2
Oil on Gessobord

Another rose from the trip to the antique rose farm. I'm especially fond of these old style, English roses.

Day 251 Snohomish Antique Rose

Snohomish Antique Rose

This painting is based on a photo I took at the Snohomish Antique Rose Farm last fall. Oh my, I feel like I just took that photo yesterday...
