No. 797 Pop Those Peonies!

Pop Those Peonies!
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

My students have been bringing in the most gorgeous bouquets of flowers to paint.
Sometimes I get to paint them too. Sometimes I get to just soak them in.
Either way, lucky, lucky me!!
Most importantly, they've been doing a splendid job painting them.

Cool door knocker in Vence.

No. 742 Peonies with Possibilities

Peonies with Possibilities
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

Festivals and travels over for the summer. Anika is settled in her dorm at the University of Washington. Meg is getting ready to start high school. Sigh. What do they say, "The only constant thing is change?"

Time to refocus and get ready to resume oil painting classes. I missed my students and am really looking forward to laughing and painting with them again.

No. 738 Perrin Peonies

Perrin Peonies
Oil on Linen Panel
5" x 7"

I enjoyed Dennis Perrin's workshop on roses so much I went ahead and took another one on peonies. :)

The big news is our return to the Coupeville Arts Festival this weekend. This will be our third year. Somehow I got a bee in my bonnet and decided to redesign my booth. After spending a couple of weeks on it, I am questioning that decision. Hopefully all the work will be worthwhile. Speaking of that, I'm not done yet and I have two and half days to go! Better get back to work!

No. 638 Summer Afternoon in the Shade

Summer Afternoon in the Shade
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"
SOLD

A huge thank you to everyone for a very successful weekend at the Fresh Paint Festival. It was wonderful seeing so many familiar faces. It was also a great pleasure meeting many new people. My family came out in force to help. My oldest daughter Anika worked the booth with me and just about my entire family helped tear down and pack up the booth Sunday evening. You guys are awesome!

My daughter, Anika, at the back of the booth with my demo of the day, dahlias, at the front.

The view while walking from my car to my booth. Not too shabby, right? :)

My daughter, Meg, helping out in the booth.

It was sunny, hot, successful weekend at the Coupeville festival. A HUGE thank you to my husband, Don, and my daughter, Meg, for all their help with the fair. Also a very big thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth to check out my artwork, chat, puff up my ego with compliments and the ultimate compliment - purchase my paintings. I can't tell you how much I appreciate each and every one of you.

Now it's time for a brief rest before gearing up for the next festival - Fresh Paint!

A Sunny Afternoon with Peonies - Plein Air
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

Having fun painting in my backyard. We've had so much amazing weather this year.
My new favorite scent is peony.

This is a quick post. While Don and Megan hold down the home front, Anika and I are off to England tomorrow! We will be staying with my sister, Renee, just outside of York. I hope to do lots of painting, if not in oil than in watercolor. I'll do my best to post a few while we're there.
See you on the flip side! :)

I'm definitely behind on photographing paintings. So here is a quick photo of a still life I painted in "plein air" on my back deck one warm summer evening.

Day 210 First attempt at Peonies

Peonies with Cloisonne Vase

Peonies and Black Cloisonne Vase
Oil on Gessobord
5 x 7

I have my neighbor Nancy to thank for the peonies and Ned
to thank for the beautiful black vase. How fortunate am I to be surrounded
by wonderful, helpful people. Now if only I could figure out how to properly paint
a peony and and a black cloisonne vase all would be right with the world. :)
