This painting is a demo from the Fresh Paint Festival in Everett.

I've been pleasantly surprised at how popular my doughnut and pie paintings have been.

So I thought it would be a fun subject for the festival. I received lots of offers to add

interest by taking a bite out of my prop. I didn't take up any of the offers

because I was afraid they wouldn't stop at just one. :)

Yes, we've come to the end of this particular series, at least for now. I'm going to hang the show at the doughnut shop this Sunday. Spring is just around the corner and you know what that means.... TULIPS!

I purchased this cutie from a specialty doughnut shop nearby called Frost, the home of the bacon maple bar. I chose this variety for it's good looks. Had I known at the time it was called "white chocolate raspberry truffle" it would not have lasted long enough to paint.:)

Up to this point I'd been really good about not eating my doughnut models or, at the most, just sampling them. This Bismarck, though, took me down. After taking enough bites to get the filling to pleasantly ooze, I drooled the entire time I painted it. About three minutes after the painting was finished the doughnut was no more...

This is by far and away my very favorite doughnut painting. Once again I put myself and the doughnut at risk by taking a bite to expose a ruby red center. However, one bite exposed only a tiny bit. Oh my, two bites were in order...

Okay, now it's time to get a little silly. Earlier I enjoyed painting hanging ornaments, so why not a hanging doughnut? And yes, I made the ultimate sacrifice and took a bite out of it to add a little more interest. :)

 

Congrats to the Seahawks! Who would've believed we would get to go to the Superbowl two years in a row? Amazing!

I was really pleased with the texture of the coconut topping on that yummy little doughnut.

 

Painting doughnuts is a high risk business. Not only do you have to keep yourself under control but you have to keep an eye on other potential doughnut snatchers as well....

I really struggled coming up with interesting ideas for doughnut compositions. A great benefit of daily painting is the opportunity to try out various ideas without a scary investment of time and materials. If I think about it long enough something good will come my way. :)

In February I will be showing a group of paintings at a doughnut shop in Seattle. It occurred to me that a few paintings of doughnuts might be in order. I had no idea how hard that might be. Sigh. So here is the first in my doughnut odyssey.
