No. 761 Palette Knife Poinsettia 2

Palette Knife Poinsettia #2
Oil on Canvas Panel
6" x 6"

Good grief! Could Christmas really only be a week away?

More experimenting with the palette knife. It's easy to create a lot of interesting texture with this tool.

No 760 Ruby Red Poinsettia

Ruby Red Poinsettia
Oil on Canvas Panel
6" x 6"

Another palette knife painting. Considering how very awkward a palette knife in my hands can be I'm surprised how well this came out. One thing I've noticed is how it encourages me to see more abstractly in shapes instead of lines. If you can get yourself in an abstract, shape making state of mind it usually ends up in a better painting even if the goal is realism.

No. 701 Poinsettias in White and Pink

Poinsettias in White and Pink
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

A few paintings fell through the "blog cracks" over the holidays. Pink might not be a traditional Christmas color but it does make for a gorgeous poinsettia.

No. 685 Poinsettia with Variegated Leaves

Poinsettia with Variegated Leaves
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

I have a whole slew of no longer seasonally appropriate paintings to post. :( I hope you don't mind if I go ahead and post them anyway.

I purchased gobs of poinsettias this Christmas hoping to do many paintings but ended up with only a handful. I still enjoyed having all those beautiful plants about the house. :)

No. 548 Christmas Throw Back

Peppermint Poinsettia
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

As you may have noticed I'm using the 30 in 30 challenge to help me catch up with posting. So bear with me here, this is a painting I really like but didn't have a chance to post before Christmas. I love this poinsettia. The pink mottling reminds me of peppermint.

No. 544 Poinsettia Fascination

Poinsettia Fascination
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
15" x 30"

After going a bit crazy buying Poinsettias at Molbaks, I couldn't resist doing a painting of these glorious plants. It kept me well occupied during the week surrounding Christmas. I put the last strokes on it yesterday.

Day 348 And More....

Christmas Feelings Marble
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

Despite the name of is particular variety of poinsettia I've decided that red poinsettias are for Christmas and pink ones are for New Years. So it's okay to keep posting these..... :)

Day 347 And More....

And More.....
Oil on linen panel
5" x 7"

Large pots with three different colors of poinsettias beckoned to me. "Take me home with yooouuuu," they said. Oh, if only I had a bigger house!

Day 346 But Wait There's More....

But Wait There's More...
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

I'm back after a little Christmas break. I hope your Christmas was excellent. Mine was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster since it's the first without my mom. She really loved Christmas. My family really hung in there though. I have to hand it to them. Thanks guys!

This is my very favorite poinsettia variety. It actually makes my heart flutter when I walk by, a nice distraction.

Day 338 Return of the Poinsettia #3 - The Mumsettia

Return of the Poinsettia #3 - The Mumsettia
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

Someone, somewhere came up with the interesting idea of combining a poinsettia and chrysanthemums in the same pot. How festive is that! I found this one at Molback's.

Return of the Poinsettia #1
Oil on Gessobord

That's right people, mama's got her poinsettia thing going on again. This is the first of many. Molback's inspired me with this lovely variegated leaf variety.
