No. 626 Gasworks Park

Gasworks Park
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

A couple of weeks ago, I spent the afternoon painting with Janice Kirstein. Lucky me! She suggested we try Gasworks Park. I didn't really know what to expect since I'd only been there once many years ago. The park turned out to be a plein air painter's delight! With beautiful views of downtown Seattle across the water and the funky remains of the gasworks, it was hard to choose what to paint.

Janice doin' her thing.

Look at all the lovely blues Janice likes to use!

We were getting a lot of attention until these yogis showed up. Honestly!

Beware of the geese! Or more precisely their poo on the bottom of your shoes. :)
Despite the well fertilized lawn it was a wonderful afternoon painting. Thank you, Janice!!!

No 625 Lemon Bowl

Lemon Bowl
Oil on Linen Panel
5" x 7"

This piece was painted quite awhile ago. It had an issue that took awhile for me to fix. Then it took awhile to get it photographed. Lastly, it took awhile to get it posted. So here we have, very late but not lost, lemon slices in a sugar bowl.

Wow! I had an amazing weekend in Lake Chelan. A terrific group of students joined me for my "Painting Small and Often" class. My host, Concie Luna, treated me like royalty in her lovely home by the lake and Melissa, bless her heart, did all the driving. Who could ask for more?

I have lots of thank you's to share. First of all a big thank you to Barb Koenig and the Arts Council of Chelan for having me teach a class. A special thank you to Melissa and Concie for getting me the teaching gig. One more to Concie for being such an incredible host. And last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to all of my wonderful students. I so enjoyed meeting and teaching all of you! I hope we get to do it again!

No. 622 Palouse Falls - Plein Air

Palouse Falls - Plein Air
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

Last weekend I went on a most excellent trip with the PAWA group to southeastern Washington. The landscape is so different over there. Here we are hemmed in with lush vegetation, there it is wide open skies with sagebrush and dry grasses. Also, they have the occasional amazing geological feature like Palouse Falls.

The paint gang at the KOA campground cafĂ©. One evening a huge lightening storm rolled in and we were very happy to hang there instead of our thin walled tents.

Palouse Falls has quite the colony of marmots. They were everywhere and they were not afraid to stare back!

Melanie, our fearless leader for the weekend. She excels at painting this landscape. We stopped to see her one person show at the Clymer Museum in Ellensburg on our way over. It was stunning. If you would like to see pics of her show click here.

Kathryn Townsend painting away with the falls thundering nearby.

A big thanks to my carpool partner Karen. She kept me well entertained on the long drive over and back and kindly let me stop here there and everywhere to take pictures and sneak in a little extra sightseeing. You're the best Karen!

No. 621 Pear with Gold and Silver

Pear with Gold and Silver
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

I purchased a large quantity of pears for one of my classes. They are such a charming and forgiving fruit to paint. After seeing the wonderful work they inspired my students to create, I had to come home and paint them myself.

The Last But Not the Least
Oil on Gessobord

While it looks like this will be the last of the tulip paintings this year it is also the one I'm most pleased with. Oh tulips, you rascally devils, we will meet again.
