No. 874 Tulips in Glass Vase

Tulips in Glass Vase
Oil on Canvas Panel
7" x 5"

Tulips are not easy to paint. Flowers in general are not easy to paint. I had a tough time this year doing any still life with tulips that I was very happy about. I did end up being pretty happy with this one.

Oh my I miss these roses. Painted under cool light. At this point I can't remember if it was daylight or a cool light bulb.

No. 701 Poinsettias in White and Pink

Poinsettias in White and Pink
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

A few paintings fell through the "blog cracks" over the holidays. Pink might not be a traditional Christmas color but it does make for a gorgeous poinsettia.

No. 479 Demo 2 from Fresh Paint

Fresh Paint Festival Demo #2
Oil on Canvas Panel
9" x 12"

I've discovered our fence is a good place to prop up a painting for a quick photo. :)
This is Sunday's demo from the festival. The flowers are geraniums from my backyard meant for decorating the booth. On Saturday, I kept noticing them while I was painting the pears. On Sunday, I could resist no longer.

They have a lot of extra room in front of the booths to set up for a demo. Notice the geraniums have been whisked out of the booth and into a shadow box to pose for my painting. :)

Just before the festival ended I ran down to see the tall ships.

My husband, Don, loading up the truck after the festival ended. Thank you, Don!

My "End of Festival" treat. :)

Practicing Peonies No. 1
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

Neighbors to the rescue once again! These magnificent flowers were growing in Shelly and Phil's yard. A huge thank you to them for letting me have a few stems to practice with. I had a lovely afternoon painting these while on the back deck.

Cherry Blossoms in Glass Vase
Oil on Linen Panel
5" x 7"

I'm way behind on posting paintings!  This one was painted well over a month ago. The cherry blossoms are long gone now. Still, it's nice to have this little reminder.

Daily Paintworks, the website I usually auction my paintings on, posts challenges to inspire artists. One recent challenge caught my eye. Brenda Ferguson (a favorite daily painter of mine) asked us to paint our bliss. Beautiful, beautiful flowers are my bliss. So with that in mind, I painted these lovely double tulips in a silver pot. If you would like to see some other challenges on Daily Paintworks click here.

No. 411 Return to Tulips

My Favorite
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

This is my very favorite tulip painting to date.

On a different note, I am really, really pleased with how well my 150 painting show is being received. I've sold several paintings already and received many wonderful comments. I took a gamble that hanging so many together would work and it payed off. I love it when that happens! Thank you, thank you everyone!

No. 404 Tulips in the Morning

Tulips in the Morning
Oil on Canvas Panel
7" x 5"

A quieter tulip painting than I usually do. At first I felt the colors weren't bright enough and found it very disappointing. Today though, I find it gently reflective and well suited to this morning's rainy spring weather.

Some slightly soggy photos taken during a morning walk with my neighbor
Melissa and my dog Loui.

I really like the above photo because it captures a daffodil in four stages of opening.

Tulips in Creamer
Oil on Canvas Board

Goodness, tulips definitely have a mind of their own. Stems, petals, everything on a tulip moves from one moment to the next. Open, close, droop or not, it can really prove to be a challenge to paint them. Now a good old fashion mandarin orange, there is something that knows how to hold a pose!

No. 401 Tulips and Gold

Tulips and Gold
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

The tulips are here! The tulips are here! I'm not exactly sure why I'm so excited because tulips can be really difficult to paint but excited I am! Central Market carries my favorite cut tulips with beautiful colors, large blooms and sturdy stems. So here we have my first batch with a really cool golden teapot I found in an antique store in Snohomish.

I used my Iphone to take the photos below.......

Don't you just want to roll in all that color?

Day 347 And More....

And More.....
Oil on linen panel
5" x 7"

Large pots with three different colors of poinsettias beckoned to me. "Take me home with yooouuuu," they said. Oh, if only I had a bigger house!

Day 259 Rose Trio

Rose Trio
Oil on Gessobord
6 x 6

My little photo safari to the Anitque Rose Farm in Snohomish last fall
was very productive. Here is yet another painting based on one of those photos.
I plan to return to the farm tomorrow and replenish my photo stock as well as
hopefully paint plein air.

Again flowers from my yard except for the snow balls. Neighbor
