Still thinking about Alexander Zimin's workshop. Of particular interest is how he arranged his still life and how he lit both the still life and his canvas with only natural light. I'm also trying really hard not to crop in so close. Not sure how successful I was with all of that. Natural light is so cool (a little too cool for me) and the fact that my walls are painted green doesn't help. Hmmm, we'll keep trying....

Goodness, tulips definitely have a mind of their own. Stems, petals, everything on a tulip moves from one moment to the next. Open, close, droop or not, it can really prove to be a challenge to paint them. Now a good old fashion mandarin orange, there is something that knows how to hold a pose!

Nothing catches my eye quicker in a thrift store than a ginger jar.

They are short and round, kind of like me, with exotic designs far too

complicated to render in a daily painting. (Sorry, no exotic designs on

 me) I'm beginning to acquire a decent collection of those

voluptuous little jars.

You may have already guessed that I love painting with red.

Well, imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon a gorgeous

brilliant red ceramic jar at, you guessed it, a thrift store.

Of course it had to be mine.

Day 158 Double Cherry Blossoms

Trees with huge, dense clusters of cherry blossoms give

me a special thrill. So of course I had to try painting a bunch.

I guessed they would be a challenge and, by golly, I was right.

 

Spent almost the entire day today getting ready for my show

at Anthony's Woodfire Grill on the Everett waterfront. A reception

will be held this Wednesday evening from 5-9pm. Stop by and

say "hi" if you can. Happy hour prices will be in effect for the

entire evening - just mention you're there for the reception.

A fun little teapot I picked up in a thrift store last week.

 

On a separate note, I have now painted a painting  a day for five months!

I did it! I knocked on the door of a neighbor that I only knew

slightly and asked if I could have a Camellia flower or two. To

be fair it was a low risk situation since I was planning on taking

the flowers that had already fallen on the ground. She was so nice

about it though that I bucked up and asked if I could trim off a short

branch. She was okay with that too. What do you know!

 

Is it just me or do you think this might be a nice Mother's Day present?

Just a thought. :)

My second painting from the PAWA paint-out.

I've been working hard all day getting ready for a display

of my artwork in the Snohomish Library. This is the third year I've shown

paintings at the library. My daily paintings and plein air

work are too small for the interior walls so they will be put in

a large display case in the entry way.

Well, I'm off to finish putting things together. I'll post a photo of the display tomorrow.

101 - PAWA Tulips

This was painted at the Plein Air Washington Artists (PAWA) Paint-In

on Sunday. I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed

painting this still life designed by Janice Kirstein. I wonder if I could

get her to come over and set up some more still lifes for me. Or I suppose

 I could drop in one of her classes too. Hmmmmm....

Another painting from the Mom's Getaway Weekend.

There were several star shape bowls around the kitchen.

I was in the midst of painting it before I realized it was supposed

to be a sea star. Makes sense since we were on the beach. Fun bowls.

If our cabin wasn't the size of a postage stamp I might consider

getting one.

The house we rented had some lovely blue glass vases in

the windowsills. While I was pondering how to use the vases in a painting,

I happened to notice the lovely amber drink my friend Jodie was holding.

Then I started to think about other rehydration drinks the gals

had brought for the weekend and a still life was born!
