This past summer I found this lovely little creamer while on a morning meander through a street market in Paris. Thank goodness for the universal language of gestures since I didn't speak French and my brother-in-law who always carried cash on him. Thanks Andy! I think I still owe you that Euro.

I painted this during a trip to Colorado last winter. Considering the snow storm they are currently experiencing I felt it was an appropriate post. :) This scene is located very close to my sister-in-law Beth's house. It was a gorgeous day but only 20 degrees! Hence the tiny painting. I was all prepped before hand to paint as fast as I possibly could. I think it's the fastest plein air I've ever done!

I finally got a chance to take a few photos of my new studio. Here's a couple to start you out with...

For all the non-French speaking people it says "Welcome to the Little House of Magic". For all you French speakers, I promise to change the accent on the "a" to the right direction tomorrow. :)

Ready for work! It's important to me that each student has their own still life set up. This way they have complete control over subject matter, lighting and design.

Probably my favorite photo of the studio, a little section of my prop collection. As you can see, I have a few props to share with my students. :) There are more photos to share with you tomorrow...

Long time no see! So much has been going on. I've spent the last several weeks helping my dad find a new home, my daughter decide which college she will attend next fall and converting a large shed in my backyard into an artist's studio! Phew! I'm feeling tired just thinking about it. I'll share more about the studio in the following days. It's where I will now be teaching oil painting classes. Whoopee!

This was my first attempt painting tulips using the methods I learned in the Dennis Perrin workshop. At first I was disappointed, feeling it had turned out too dark and heavy. Since then, though, it has grown on me and I've decided I like it after all. :)

Many of the artists I admire paint their still lifes under a cool light or light from a north facing window (also considered a cool light). I normally paint with a Chromolux bulb which has a bit of a pink cast to it instead of the blueish cast a cool bulb has. So with these wonderful artists in mind I've been trying to paint under cool light. I really miss my Chromolux bulbs. :(

On an entirely separate note, I hear the tulips are out in Mt. Vernon....
