I painted this during a trip to Colorado last winter. Considering the snow storm they are currently experiencing I felt it was an appropriate post. :) This scene is located very close to my sister-in-law Beth's house. It was a gorgeous day but only 20 degrees! Hence the tiny painting. I was all prepped before hand to paint as fast as I possibly could. I think it's the fastest plein air I've ever done!

Another one of Winnie's lovely landscapes. I don't know much about the background of this particular painting. I do know that we have enjoyed it for many years hanging above our piano.

The more I learn about painting landscapes the more appreciative I am of Winnie's work. It would've have been great fun to paint with her. I regret my poor timing. When I decided to learn to create landscapes of my own, dementia had already taken much of Winnie's knowledge and desire to paint. Thankfully her paintings remain.

What day are we on?

It's easy to loose track of the days while on the island.....

This is one of my favorite plein air landscapes from our recent trip to Colorado and Wyoming. It's another state park very close to my sister-in-law Beth's home. Ah, the painting opportunities there! Can't wait to go back and paint some more!

Day 221 Beth's Pond #2

 

Beth's Pond #2 - Plein Air

When time was short Beth's pond, as we like to call it, was an

excellent place to kick out another daily painting. Those thunderheads

in the distance grew to a whopper of a thunder and lightening storm.

Fortunately, it also came with a good dose of rain. The last thing

Colorado needs now is another forest fire.

My sister-in-law Beth lives in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains

near Denver, a terrific location. There is also a pond nearby

with some great old cottonwood trees. How convenient for me!

Thanks again, Beth, for your wonderful hospitality. I really wish we could've stayed longer. :)

 

 

Day 214 Roxburough State Park

This was painted at an amazing park about ten minutes away from my sister-in-law's house. The park is full of these dramatic, red rock formations seemly thrusting toward the sky. I could very happily paint here for weeks. Click here for more info about this park.
