This was painted at the PAWA winter paint-in. Held in picturesque downtown Edmonds, it's always a great opportunity to catch up with plein air painting friends.

No. 759 Glass Ornaments in Glass Bowl

Glass Ornaments in Glass Bowl
Oil on Gessobord
 6" x 6"

I've been trying to learn how to paint with a palette knife recently. Interesting learning curve there and like everything it has it's pros and cons. This piece was painted almost exclusively with a palette knife.

No. 666.5 Glass Painting Demo

Glass Painting Demo
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

The September theme in the oil painting class I'm teaching was "Learning How to Paint Glass".  Wow! We had some great work come out of that class. We started the month painting upside down, black and white photos of glass and ended painting from life. This was my "painting from life" demo.

No. 642 The Tinkling of Gold and Silver

The Tinkling of Gold and Silver
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

Another still life inspired by the oil painting class I'm teaching. We started back up with a bang last week after a summer break. Intermediate students worked on learning how to paint glass and the beginners worked on value studies of pears. It is such a kick to see what people create...

It turned out lovely!

Karen Bakke's wonderful glass study.

Carol's terrific pear. She says she is a beginner. I'm not so sure... :)

Day 52

Brass Pitcher with Red Bottle and Grapes
Oil on Ampersand Board

I have a feeling I probably should've posted this one
closer to Valentine's Day. Ah well, I couldn't wait that
long. I'm feeling better about painting on Ampersand
Gessobord. I think with this painting surface you either
have to be very bold with your paintbrush or
very delicate. Inbetween doesn't work very well.
I do really like the fact that it is an archival product
that is ready to go should someone decide they want it.
Happy Valentines Day a little over a month early!
