No. 733 Peggy's Pear

Peggy's Pear
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

Peggy, one of my students, selected one of the class pears and put it in this colorful set up. The woman loves lots of color. As class progressed I fell in love with the reflected light on the shadow side of the pear.  Thanks so much for the inspiration, Peggy, you color lover you!
This is the last of the class inspired still lifes. We are on break for the summer. Time for occasional trips out of town, spending time with family AND getting ready for the Coupeville and Fresh Paint festivals!

No. 642 The Tinkling of Gold and Silver

The Tinkling of Gold and Silver
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

Another still life inspired by the oil painting class I'm teaching. We started back up with a bang last week after a summer break. Intermediate students worked on learning how to paint glass and the beginners worked on value studies of pears. It is such a kick to see what people create...

It turned out lovely!

Karen Bakke's wonderful glass study.

Carol's terrific pear. She says she is a beginner. I'm not so sure... :)

No. 628 Is There Room For Me?

Is There Room For Me?
Oil on Linen Panel
5" x 7"

My friend, Peg, has been describing my paintings in very imaginative ways. I decided to look at this painting more from her perspective. All of a sudden, I felt like the large pear on the right was asking the others if there was room in the hot tub for one more. With that in mind I decided to name it "Is There Room For Me?" instead of "Pears on a Platter".  :)

Pears on the Edge

A quick post tonight just to let you know I'm still here. I'm teaching a one day workshop on painting "small and often" in Chelan this Saturday. Very excited but working hard getting everything put together...

No. 621 Pear with Gold and Silver

Pear with Gold and Silver
Oil on Gessobord
6" x 6"

I purchased a large quantity of pears for one of my classes. They are such a charming and forgiving fruit to paint. After seeing the wonderful work they inspired my students to create, I had to come home and paint them myself.

No. 611 Cherry Blossoms with Pears

Cherry Blossoms with Pears
Oil on Linen Panel
5" x 7"

Out of the four paintings I did with cherry blossoms, this one is by far my favorite. Spring is an absolute feast for the painter that loves flowers. Each year I think I need to clear my calendar so I have plenty of time to enjoy the bounty. Sadly, each year I forget to do just that.

No. 570 Panama Canal Find

Still Life in Cool Light #2
Oil on Linen Panel
7" x 5"

I love this frosted blue bottle. The fellow I purchased it from claims to have discovered it with quite a few more bottles while scuba diving in the Panama Canal. Cool story, right? :)

My favorite painting so far using ideas I learned in the Cool Light/ Warm Light workshop. Hopefully you can tell this was painted in cool, natural light.

No. 477 Fresh Paint Festival

Demo Painting for Fresh Paint Festival
Oil on Canvas Panel
9" x 12"

Wow! Another successful festival! I can't hardly believe my good fortune. A great thing about this festival was seeing many people I knew. A few of them I hadn't seen in years! It was wonderful visiting with old and new friends. A very big thank you to everyone who decided to give one of my little paintings a good home. And a HUGE thank you to my family for working hard the second weekend in a row.

On Sunday, the Everett Farmers Market became part of the festival. This was my favorite booth. :)

Saturday I painted standing in the sun. Holy cow that was hot and uncomfortable. In desperation, I asked Don to figure out a way to set up my plein air umbrella on the pavement. He definitely came through! Below is Don setting up his new invention. It worked like a charm! I am sooooo grateful for my clever husband.

Day 65! 300 to go

Pears
Watercolor
6 x 6

What is it about pears? I think if you looked at the top most
painted fruit, pears would probably be number one. I love paintings
of pairs. I own a beautiful painting of a golden pair by local artist Nikki Wheeler.
Pears are very anthropomorphic.  This, I believe, is the reason for their
universal appeal. Who do these pears remind you of?
