The last painting of Winnie's I have to share with you is hands down my favorite. When Don and I decided to get married in the Caribbean on a Windjammer ship, Winnie excitedly asked for a brochure - crafty lady. One evening during dinner at her house she told us she had a surprise. A moment later she returned with this beautiful painting of the ship we were married on. We were so surprised! What a wonderful wedding gift.

Of all the Winifred McManamen paintings we own, this is one of my favorites. The photo doesn't do the painting justice. This piece was inspired by one of Winnie's trips to Laguna Beach in California to visit her sister-in-law, Sister Florence. Sister was the principle of a catholic school there for many years.

Another one of Winnie's lovely landscapes. I don't know much about the background of this particular painting. I do know that we have enjoyed it for many years hanging above our piano.

The more I learn about painting landscapes the more appreciative I am of Winnie's work. It would've have been great fun to paint with her. I regret my poor timing. When I decided to learn to create landscapes of my own, dementia had already taken much of Winnie's knowledge and desire to paint. Thankfully her paintings remain.

Winnie painted this from a photo she took during one of her mountain hikes. It was such a popular image that she painted it two or three times to satisfy demanding family members (such as myself) who wanted their very own copy. Did I mention how nice she was?

 

I was so enchanted with this image I asked Winnie if I could see this flower covered mountain field myself. She happily agreed to take me there and with great excitement I climbed the trail only to find we were there too soon, no flowers. Maybe someday I will get to try again. Many thanks to my sure footed sister-in-law, Beth, who carried my daughter Anika during our mad dash back down the mountain in a rain storm.

Two days before Christmas we received the very sad news that my wonderful mother-in-law, Winnie McManamen, had passed away. She was an accomplished artist and a huge inspiration to me. During the next few days I would like to honor her memory by sharing some of her wonderful paintings with you.

Winnie lived in Evergreen, Colorado, located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. She was in love with the beautiful mountains she lived next to.
