Can you believe these are more of my very own home grown roses? I just barely can. A huge thanks to the gals at the Antique Rose Farm for helping me select and care for these beautiful roses. I'm still amazed these are mine.

This is a flower from my very own rose bush purchased at the Antique Rose Farm last year. I'm in love. These flowers are simply gorgeous and I'm so very happy I brought them home. I gave up on roses years ago but with the assistance of the very helpful people from the Antique Rose Farm I was finally successful growing my own. I still can't believe it!

Leslie Saeta is at again. Best known for her blog radio show "Artisits Helping Artists", she has reissued the 30 in 30 day challenge. I think this is her third year encouraging artists to produce thirty paintings in thirty days. The number of artists accepting the challenge each time increases dramatically. I understand the September challenge has over 500 artists participating! I first accepted this challenge in January. Why not do it again?

 

The challenge is loosely structured and entirely self policed. A theme is encouraged. So while painting everyday isn't a problem for me, posting to my blog is. So my personal challenge is to catch up on posting paintings. Also, as a theme I would like to work on is clouds. I will probably stray from this theme quite a bit but be ready to see quite a few cloud paintings. :)

 

The painting above is a plein air piece painted at the Antique Rose Festival at the beginning of summer (yes, I'm that far behind). I finished it recently for one of the art festivals I participated in this August.

I had so much fun painting this view the first time I had to return and try it again. This time I wanted to try the scene in a vertical format. Which one do you prefer?

 

 

I had great fun taking photos at the rose farm with my iPhone after a rain shower.

Dina returned with me to paint a second day at the farm. She happened to notice a view that was very similar to a wonderful painting she already owned. So we set to work to create our own version of her lovely little painting. A fun idea I will admit.

Back to the rose farm for more practice! This time I took a shot at a quartered rose. Okay, more practice needed. I had a great time though. Especially since my terrific painting friend Dina joined me.

I decided the other day that I wanted to improve my ability to paint roses. To do that meant focusing on just roses for awhile. What a great excuse to buy roses! But when I looked at the roses in the store they just seemed to have no character. Where to find roses to make you swoon? The Antique Rose Farm of course! My timing was perfect. The roses were their peak.
